About Sportsimba

What Sportsimba is for

Sportsimba explains sports betting in plain English for readers in the UK. Betting comes with its own language: fractional and decimal odds, each-way terms, accumulators, Rule 4 deductions, cash out, "stake not returned". That language is usually explained in a hurry, on a bet slip or in the small print of a promotion. Sportsimba slows it down. Each guide takes one idea, says what it means and works through an example you can check with a calculator.

Who writes it

The guides are written by Johny Atwood. Before he turned to writing, Johny commentated on sports matches, describing play as it happened and explaining to listeners why a moment mattered. He brings the same habit to betting: take the term that confuses people, explain it as plainly as possible and show what it means in practice. His author page says more about how he works.

What you will find here

The site is arranged in six sections. Betting Basics covers how a bet is placed and settled, and the tools that help you stay in control. Bet Types explains singles, multiples and each-way bets and how each one settles. Odds Explained shows how to read fractional and decimal prices and what a price says about probability and the bookmaker's margin. Free Bet Terms reads through the conditions attached to promotions. In-Play and Cash Out covers what happens to markets while an event is live. The Betting Glossary collects the terms used across the site in one place.

How the guides are written

Every worked example is labelled as an example and shows its arithmetic, so you can follow each step instead of taking a number on trust. Where a rule differs from one bookmaker to another, the guide says so, because no single page can tell you how every bookmaker settles every bet. When a guide is corrected or updated, the page shows the date it changed. The editorial policy and the sources and corrections page set out the method in more detail.

What Sportsimba does not do

Sportsimba is a publication, not a bookmaker: it does not take bets, hold accounts or handle money. It does not publish tips, predictions or "best bets", and it does not tell you which bookmaker to use. Nothing here promises winnings. Betting in Great Britain is for adults aged 18 and over. If you do bet, decide in advance what you can afford to lose, and stop when it stops being enjoyable.
